For the fifth consecutive year, the Ohio Department of Aging, through its STEADY U Ohio falls prevention initiative, invites all Ohioans to help take “10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls.” To date, community partners have organized more than four dozen local walking events and groups on National Falls Prevention Awareness Day, Monday, Sept. 23, and throughout September.

Forecasters are predicting high temperatures and the possibility of dangerous storms over much of Ohio for the first half of this week. The Ohio Department of Aging reminds residents that older adults often have a harder time adjusting to weather extremes than others and encourages all Ohioans to check on older loved ones and neighbors before, during, and after severe weather.

The Ohio Department of Aging will hold its fifth-annual “10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls” campaign on National Falls Prevention Awareness Day, Monday, Sept. 23, 2019. The agency is seeking individuals, groups, and organizations to host community walking groups and events on that day and throughout September to raise awareness of older adult falls and the many things older Ohioans can do to prevent them.

During National Farmers’ Market Week, Aug. 4-10, 2019, the Ohio Department of Aging announces that the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 State Budget includes funding that will allow the agency to increase access to healthy, locally grown, fresh fruits and vegetables for older Ohioans.
