New E-Newsletter Reaches Out to Baby Boomers, "Young" Seniors
"Boomerang" Offers Insights on Life, Family, Community, Future and Heritage

Boomerang: It all comes back to you!COLUMBUS - On May 15, 2009, the Ohio Department of Aging will launch Boomerang, a free, lifestyles e-mail newsletter for baby boomers and "young" seniors. Built on the notion that "it all comes back to you," Boomerang will offer readers interesting, entertaining and helpful articles on life, family, community, the future and Ohio's heritage.

"Boomerang is about throwing yourself into life and reaping the rewards that come back to you," said Barbara E. Riley, director of the Ohio Department of Aging. "This new publication uses technology to help us reach out to a new audience about the benefits of devoting your time and talents to work, learning, planning, service and health, no matter your age."

Boomerang will include four main feature areas:

  • My Life will provide advice and information for living a healthy and active life, from disease prevention and management, to physical activity and nutrition.
  • My Family will focus on the challenges and opportunities faced by a generation increasingly sandwiched between raising their children and caring for aging loved ones.
  • My Community will provide information and insight for readers who want to be involved in their communities through employment, social networking, volunteerism and education.
  • My Future will help readers think about their futures, and those of their loved ones, with advice on planning and self-advocacy for care, finances, retirement and more.

In addition, Boomerang initially will showcase stories about the Great Depression of the 1930s written by those who lived through it, collected by the department during the spring.
