No Gifts Please - It's the Law!

Dec. 14, 2007

We appreciate your thank you messages, cards and well-wishes this holiday season. We also remind you not to send gifts to the Ohio Department of Aging, Director Barbara E. Riley or any other individual employee of the department.

As public employees, staff of the Ohio Department of Aging are subject to certain restrictions under Ohio's ethics laws and Executive Order 2007-01S: Establishing New Ethics Requirements. We cannot accept things of value, including gifts, travel, meals or lodging from persons doing or seeking to do business with, regulated by or interested in matters before the Department. Please do not send any gifts to the department or to individual staff at home.

In addition, it could be against the law for you to offer or give a Department of Aging staff member a gift, per statutory prohibitions against giving gifts or engaging in other actions which may be violations of Ohio ethics law (Ohio Revised Code, Chapter 102). Further guidance is available from the Ohio Ethics Commission.

We ask all persons to adhere to the Ohio ethics laws and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
