The Department of Aging and the aging network encourage all older Ohioans to maintain a healthy lifestyle with appropriate physical activity and disease prevention.
In addition, the department supports several state, local and national initiatives to promote healthy aging.
- Aging in Ohio: Senior Series - This informational service is a collection of fact sheets and information from professionals at Ohio State University Extension and from Ohio's Aging Network.
- Healthy Ohio - This initiative of the Ohio Department of Health encourages personal fitness and wellness in settings where Ohioans already gather: their work places, schools, social groups and communities.
- Ohio Senior Olympics - Senior Olympics is an athletic competition open to men and women ages 50 and over. Games are held at the regional, state and national levels There are nearly 5,000 athletes competing in Senior Olympics in Ohio.
- The President's Challenge - This national program encourages all Americans to make being active part of their everyday lives through small changes.
- Small Step - This campaign of the the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services demonstrates that small changes - such as taking the stairs, not eating late at night and taking salad dressing on the side - can be effective in achieving big results.
