Golden Buckeye Turns 32, Continues to Save
The Golden Buckeye program celebrates its 32nd anniversary this month. Golden Buckeye cardholders have saved an estimated $2 billion since 1976. The program, administered by the Ohio Department of Aging, recruits businesses statewide to offer voluntary savings on merchandise and services. Today, approximately 20,000 merchants honor the card, which is potentially in the purses and wallets of two million Ohioans.
All Ohioans age 60 or older, as well as adults age 18-59 who have disabilities as defined by Social Security, are eligible for a free Golden Buckeye card. Each month, the program mails 16,000 free cards to Ohioans on their 60th birthdays. There is no cost to the state to operate the program.
For more information about the Golden Buckeye program, call 1-800-422-1976 or visit www.goldenbuckeye.com.
The Golden Buckeye card also includes the Ohio's Best Rx prescription drug discount program. Best Rx lowers the cost of prescriptions for Ohio residents who do not have drug insurance coverage for all drugs. Savings average 30-40 percent on prescriptions at more than 2,300 participating pharmacies.
Any Ohio resident age 60 or older is eligible, regardless of income, and you can access the program immediately using your existing Golden Buckeye card. Also eligible for Best Rx are Ohioans age 18-59 with an income under 300 percent of the federal poverty level. This means an individual who earns $31,200 per year; a family of two who earns $42,000 a year; or a family of four that earns $63,600 a year, are eligible.
