Each year the Department of Aging administers nearly $400 million in funds from a variety of state, federal and other sources. In addition to this funding, regional aging programs receive support from community organizations, local governments, individuals and others. Here is a brief overview of some of the types of funding that support the aging network.
Older Americans Act
The Older Americans Act, originally passed in 1965, funds a variety of programs to support older Ohioans in their homes and communities. Many of the aging network's home and community supports are funded by the Older Americans Act.

Medicaid funds care services for low-income Ohioans, as well as those with disabilities. The Department of Aging administers several Medicaid programs, including
Other Federal Funding
Other federal funding includes grants from the U.S. Administration on Aging to develop specific programs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture provides funding for some nutrition programs and the Department of Labor supports employment and training programs.
State Funding
The Ohio Housing Trust Fund, administered by the ohio Department of Development, Office of Housing & Community Partnerships, provides grants for home repair and accessibility modification services to Area Agencies on Aging and other local service providers, as well as funds a service coordinator program through the Department of Aging..
Senior Services Levies
In addition to state and federal funding, Ohio counties may use local property tax levies to support increased services to older adults. In Ohio, 62 of 88 counties have levies, contributing more than $100 million in funding each year.
