The Department of Aging

Mission and Vision

Our Mission: To provide leadership for the delivery of services and supports that improve and promote quality of life and personal choice for older Ohioans, adults with disabilities, their families and their caregivers.

Our Vision: Ohioans will benefit from a network of effective resources and community services that support consumer rights, independence and dignity.

Federal law mandates that each state designate a unit on Aging. The Department of Aging is a cabinet-level state agency with a Director appointed by the Governor. The Department receives and administers funding from a variety of sources and oversees a variety of programs.

History of the Department - With roots as a division within a larger agency, the Department has been elevated to a cabinet-level agency as the needs of older persons and their families have moved to the forefront.
